WRLD recently hosted a global challenge for developers to create the most useful application or immersive experience using any of the WRLD SDKs. The contest started on October 1st, 2017 and ran till January 5th, 2018.

WRLD received a great response to the challenge, from VR powered travel apps to immersive fitness games to navigation apps to flying games; the creativity of the submissions combined with the WRLD SDKs knew no bounds.

Winners were judged on creativity, relevance, quality and usage of the WRLD platform features. Meet the winners:

  • Winner of useful app category:

YouAnchor is an iPhone X first app from Yosun Chang that lets you be your own avatar anchor in a stylized version of the real world. Users can use their faces to puppeteer their personalized avatars and star in their own production with a scenic view of wherever they’d like to share and live stream it when they’re ready. This app is targeted towards anyone and everyone who want to stylize their own avatar and also live stream it over WRLD 3D maps. The quality of the application along with the uniqueness of the concept were determining factors in its success. The app can currently be viewed on iPhone X but shortly will be open for other phones as well. YouAnchor can be viewed on Github repository here.

  • Winner of game/immersive experience category:

Angel World This game, created by Kenny Hansen, focused on solving the three main issues with VR content: it’s hard to move without breaking immersion, it’s usually a small/closed environment, and it’s lonely. Angel World is meant to be an open world experience that is free, expressive, and full of depth, allowing you to fly anywhere to connect with players around the world. The feeling of flying through WRLD’s 3D maps was ethereal and addictive at the same time. This app is intended for mostly room scale VR users and Kenny intends to launch a polished experience in the summer.

Lastly, a big thank you to all the developers and designers who took part in the #WRLDChallenge. We look forward to hosting more of these competitions in the future as well. Stay tuned!
